CHRISTMAS CAN'T BE FAR AWAY

I 'm so glad that I don't have to complain about the rain anymore ... for a while anyway.  The wind is drying things up and the sun shone a little today although it was cold. More sun and clear sky for the next couple of days. Hooray!!!

I noticed that my Christmas Cactus plants were budding  by the window on the north side of the house. Christmas can't be far away.

Today I've worked on my Childhood Memories rug and added a tree to the design and I started to work on the summer scene  to take a break from  working on the snow. I may have an update tomorrow. I'm not rushing this project as it is tedious and the design just develops as I go because I can't visualize much at a time.  Thanks for stopping by for a visit. I always enjoy your comments even though it's only a few words. When we have so many blogs to follow it's difficult to find enough time to leave comments on every one.  JB

  1. What a gorgeous Christmas Cactus! I have a tiny one that I I'm trying to get started. I took a slip from my Mom's plant. I think hers may be a plant that was started from a slip from her Grandma's. Enjoy the sunny days there while you have them....you certainly deserve a break from rain and more rain!

  4. I don't know if I have ever seen one more vibrant or so big. Your Christmas cactus is beautiful. So glad you had some time to work on your rug. I maybe won't start a new rug until after Christmas. I always look forward to your posts and I love your well thought out and insightful comments. I hope you get to soak up lots of sunshine. I will be feeling just like you when we get our fog. Then we won't see the sun for months. Just gray, cold fog. I get so stir crazy. I could see it out on the horizon this evening so I know it is a matter of time.
I hope you have a dry, sunny weekend.

  5. Thank you for you sweet and deep comment. I just wanted to say that you are spiritual because of your illness. I went into cardiac arrest during the birth of my sixth child. I was dying and since then I have never been afraid. The same thing happened with my daughter-in-law. It makes us different and when you have went to the very edge, you see life so different. Almost like the glass becomes clearer somehow. I think I could sit and talk to you for days. Your comment touched me so deeply. I just wanted to say thank you.

  6. Hi Cathy G. It's so nice to have a family heirloom plant. I have two Hoya plant that was started from a slip from my mother in law and she got her slip from her mother in law too. They are both gone to their eternal rest and it's nice to have something living that came from them. Now my daughters have some too.I have three different Christmas cactus and they were all started from slips. One in the sunroom is huge but has no buds on it because it gets too much light I presume.

Cathy from Acorn hollow, you are right about having Christmas cactus flowering when the flowers are dead, is really nice.

Katie, your comment. I'll post pictures of them in bloom later.

Farm Girl, We all have our cross to bear weather wise. It humbles us and make us appreciate the nice weather when it comes. Thanks for you thoughtful comment. JB

  7. Kim, Farm Girl, You are right about that. It take the fear away because we realize that we are so powerless by ourselves and that there is a higher power who is in control and we are not. We have no choice but surrender.
I always said that I know that God loves my children even more than I could ever love them and I think that I love them all so very much. So I trust that the Lord will take care of them even better than I can. That goes for my grandkids too and the one after that... JB

  9. Hi Julis
I just noticed this morning that my Christmas cactus is also ready to bloom. I love those plants and they seem to be hardy enough for me to keep alive. I think they sould be called "thankful" cactus for they give us pleasure when all other flowers have finished blooming.
