I'm lagging behind with my Chat on Patrice's Porch but I know that you'll understand. These past two weeks have been unusually busy for me.

Patrice wanted to get to know her friends better so she's been having these chats on her front porch but I think that I'm going to bring a parka and mittens, and a little thermos of hot toddy.

Patrice's Questions:
1.  What is your favorite kind of tree. That's is a loaded question.  If I'm cold I like a dead Maple tree that is seasoned and dried so I get the best heat from it, In the summer I like the shade of a live maple tree, In the fall I like a red Maple for it's beauty and in the spring I like a lilac tree. At Christmas it's a fir tree, if I'm hungry, it would be an apple tree.  Heck, I love just about any kind of tree but I have no use for a Tamarack. I don't know why but I just don't care for them.

2.  How did you celebrate the New Year.
Wine and a bag of chip shared with my husband after work in the evening. We worked on a puzzle. It was freezing rain and we stayed home.

3.  Do you have any family traditions for the New Year?
We go to the Lieutenant Governor's New Year's Levee at Government House, but this year because of calves being born we missed it.

4.  I'm so glad I went to stay with my daughter in Ottawa  for 5 weeks when my grandson James was born in January 2011.

5.  Did you have a nickname as a child.
No I didn't have a nickname as a child and non of my siblings either. My mom frowned on nicknames and wanted us to be called by our Christian's name as we were baptized. Our neighbor's kids all had bad nicknames and I think that my mother did not like that.

I'm having a very slow computer today so I'm going to call it a night. I'll be back with a few Christmas pictures. It took me for ever to upload them.

I can't believe that I have 99 followers. Thanks for your support and thanks for stopping by and leaving comments. Stay safe and warm. Best wishes for the New Year.  JB

  3. Hello Julia, I like what you said about Maple. I never thought of it like that. My favorite one died so now I will think of it instead of terms of firewood.
You have been so busy since those triplets were born.
Well, you know Julia, I want to go onto other projects and I won't let myself until I finish what I am working on, I can't even begin to count the things I did years ago and never finished,
When I started sewing two years ago, I decided I had to finish what I was working on or I would just quit and not sew anymore. It helped.
I do hope you are getting some rest now. Any more calves?

I can not even imagine doing all you do. You are a inspiration!!!

    Good Bless~

  7. Hello Julia and a very very happy and healthy New Year to you. I've been slowly getting back to blogging and have been missing reading whats going on in your life. Thanks by the way for commenting on my blog the other day. Hubby and I did the same thing here for New's years eve. We were going to go to the Casino but the roads stayed slippery all day where we live. I think I had 6 big bag of chips all to myself during the holidays and now I"m greatly paying for it. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well over xmas, but you know that was your body telling you to slow down. Take care my blogger friend.

  8. Glad you're feeling better again. I agree that it's hard to choose a tree - I kind of went for a category instead.

Although my father gave everyone he knew - including his kids - a nickname, my mother disapproved of them. Yes, even the shortened forms of our names. I was never Steph and to this day it annoys me to be called that. Although I don't correct anyone any more!

  10. Hi Delcina. Good to have your comment here on my blog. As you probably know I've been a bit too busy to blog much lately.

I don't think that it was a nickname but a younger sibling who couldn't pronounce your name properly. Hugs, Julia

  15. Well now I really enjoyed reading your answers to these question.... especially the one about your favorite tree! You clever girl! Freezing rain... oh my. It's been quite warm here, but a little spooky because the weather is just completely off. I had to chase a wasp out of the house yesterday!

  18. I always enjoy reading your posts and learn just a bit more about you, Julia. I just read the last one too and saw baby James book...so precious! He should be a cover baby ad!!
I can believe you have 99 followers because it's so much fun to read!! You are a phenomenal farm wife and do it all from soup to nuts...calve, hook, cook, garden etc, etc. It tires me to READ what all you do!! But then it's good to have heros in order to make better goals for yourself!!

  19. Julia I know just how you feel about lagging behind on blogging. I thought I was going to do better in 2012 but not so far. hahaha
Glad you were able to sit on the porch and answer questions but you better not do it too long are you will be sick again.
As Donna says in her comment you do everything so how you have time to sit down and write is a miracle. But so glad you do. I enjoy your writing and so glad you have a 100 followers. You should your site is so interesting and sometimes quite funny.

  21. I have been pretty sick so haven't had the energy to do any blogging. However, I am feeling better so wanted to play catch up tonight. I loved reading about your little porch chat......and I feel the same way you do about trees. I love almost any kind, but we see mostly palm trees here. There are many varieties and I love them all.

I hope things are letting up a bit for you, Julia. You have had a pretty busy last few months. I get tired just thinking about all you have been doing.

We worked so hard over the holidays that we hardly had time to enjoy our Christmas decorations and since neither of us has any energy at all, we are just enjoying the fact that they are still up just waiting for us. I may not take them down for a week or two. It is a really BIG job and we're just not up for it yet.

Thanks Julia, for being a great blogging friend. I have enjoyed getting to know you.
