VISITING PATRICE IN HER DINING ROOM THIS TIME.

Yesterday I sanded the new stairs today I painted the ceiling in the bathroom and the can of paint was barely enough to cover the ceiling in the bathroom. I had to stretch it to cover the whole ceiling. We used to buy a quart of paint, now we pay more and the can is much smaller.  It cost  $27.08 with tax, it's ridiculous.

Now to take a break from work, I'm visiting Patrice at Everyday Ruralty. We are invited inside her dining room so come along for a hot cuppa something.  It sure make the week go fast.

Today Patrice's questions are this.

1.  Tell me a fond memory of an elderly person.
My grandpa on my mother's side made the best biscuits and he use to show us how fast he could work. It was amazing to watch. He was hurrying so fast with the mixing and cutting and in no time we had hot biscuits to eat.

2. What's your favorite flavor of jam or jelly?
My favorite was strawberry but since I developed an allergy to strawberries I use marmalade or raspberry jam.

3.  What goes through your mind when you drive by those whopping huge houses that looks like something in a magazine?
I wouldn't want to pay the taxes and it must cost a fortune to upkeep and I bet that they are not any happier than me.

4. What's your favorite way to relax?
That would be at the lake with nothing planned.

5.  What's your favorite kind of pasta?
Chicken  Fettucchine with sundried tomatoes.

Thanks for visiting and  leaving a comment.

  1. yikes that's a lot for paint!
My grandfather on my mothers side was a kid at heart. He skated with us, raced us down the hill on sleds, showed us how to snow shoe (the old fashion ones)and took us haying, the old fashion kind horse and haywagon.Such great memories.

  2. I learned how to make biscuits from my granny! I can proudly say that mine are just as good as hers now - after years of trying to copy hers!

  3. I remember picking strawberries with pepere when I was 11 or 12. He loved strawberries so much that even when he lost his sight to cataracts, he planted his strawberry patch in straight rows by following a string tied to two posts. He weeded by feeling the weeds. But he couldn't tell a red strawberry from a white one which was where I came in -- to help him pick them.

  4. I like that having nothing planned. That is my idea of a perfect vacation. I love the story about watching your grandpa mix up a batch of biscuits. That is a nice memory.
I love strawberry, but I would like raspberry too.
I am glad you took a break today.

  5. I'm glad you took a break today too ... ;)

Being from the South... biscuits were a biggie. It was always fun to watch someone NOT from the South come to an old fashioned southern lady's home and GASP slice the biscuit... HAhaaaa

The smiling and blessing of that person's heart was something to witness... she would say something like... Honey, would you like for me to butter your biscuit? ... while grabbing said biscuit and proceeding to illustrate how you treat a southern biscuit... HAhaa... oh me.

and ooooo with homemade jam... get down

Quite an insult to slice a biscuit....

  6. Aren't memories of our parents and grandparents just the best? I would hope my Grandkiddos will have something fun to say about me. It wouldn't be about biscuits though..probably chocolate chip cookies! I hate painting ceilings...it's a necessary task, but I hate it! I love raspberries..I planted a bunch of them and last year I was able to make a ton of jam and had enough to use for Christmas gifts too..I'm hoping for a great crop this year too!

  7. Julia, your stairway is lovely!!! The man from the church did a great job! I can imagine how happy you are to have it finished.
I know what you mean about the price of paint. We just bought our son a gallon to do his office space and it cost $40+. Yeesh! Your bathroom is very nice! Happy relaxing in the new tub!!!

  9. I loved all of your answers, Julia, especially the one about your Grandpa making biscuits. I never ever heard about any man in that generation making biscuits!! Maybe nowdays because so many men cook. In fact I always get a kick about a woman that seem to brag by saying, "Oh I don't cook! Give me a break!!

I also loved your comment about the big houses. I never envied them. In fact, I just don't relate at all. My daughter Sue had two sisters for friends that lived in Beverly Hills, including a butler, maids etc. and I was always surprised that when they used to come and stay over night with Sue, they always made their beds and helped with whatever Sue's duties were that day. Her parents raised them well.

  12. There's nothing like fresh, hot biscuits! Growing up, my mom would make them sometimes. She worked outside the home, so by the time the weekends rolled around I believe she was too tired to do much of that sort of thing. My mother-in-law on the other hand had home-made biscuits all the time. In fact, it was she who helped me perfect my own biscuit making. I'm so delighted she did, too.

  13. I always liked the song about there being more love in small houses. I think it's true, for sure.

Biscuits, yes! I love making biscuits but it's so hard not to eat them all, too.

  14. I bet those biscuits would be good with raspberry jam!I think you're right when you say that the people in the big houses aren't necessarily happier than you or me. Have a great week!

  17. Your stairs and bath are just fabulous, Julia! Let's update! Those giant houses are a waste of space and $$. I see sooo many sweet houses with all kinds of character and possibilities go down the drain, when all they need is a little TLC. Yes that takes $$, but nothing near what those whoppers cost to buy, furnish, and keep up. Okay, time to step down from the soapbox.....

  20. Hi Julia.
Goose's real name is Allie Grace. I have always called her Allie Goose. I have no idea why. I don't like to use the kids real names on my blog.
    Thanks for stopping by.

  21. Dear Sweet Julia
I sure have missed you! Love it when I come over here and your answering these questions about yourself.
I love your memories of your grand dad. Made me think of mine but he never made biscuits he only ate them.
When I see big homes like that I think of how they keep them clean since I have trouble with a small one. haha
Glad your getting your home fixed up pretty.
Thank you honey for coming by and leaving me such a sweet comment. I always feel better when I hear from you.
Should get the news about Clint this week and I just pray it will be better news than last week.
    Have a wonderful week
    Love
    Maggie

  22. Your recipe looks wonderful, Julia!
I bet painting makes the house look spring time fresh! I always love to do things to the house. It makes it feel so new and updated.

Your memory of your grandfather making biscuits made me smile. It's probably the same ones that I have of my very special grandmother. And I can see that you love being a grandmother to your sweet little ones like I do to mine. We had wonderful role models, huh?
