PLAYING WITH A SHOVEL & HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIEL

Someone asked me how much snow did we had. It's hard to say. We've had storms after storms like lots of you and high winds that moved the snow where it wanted.

At the farm, the snow bank is up to the roof of one of the barns and on my back deck I measured the snow at being 33 inches deep.

Call me crazy but I love to shovel snow as long as I'm not cold.  This new shovel works like a charm as long as I put the the elbow grease in.   The snow was perfect for shovelling. It needed to be done as we couldn't open the door to the rear entrance anymore.

I shovelled a path to the bird feeders. It was the only way I was able to fill their feeders. I had to shovel down two sets of steps. It was deep there too but I removed some snow on top so the path didn't feel like a tunnel.

Here the snow is very deep. The compost bin sits on the ground and see how high the snow is around it. It had to be dug out so we could use it....
It took me about two hours of shovelling in all  and I loved every minute of it. I didn't rushed.

Here is the amount of snow on the roof of the back entrance. It needs to be removed.

Before I left Ottawa, we celebrated Daniel's 2nd birthday in advance and Christine made him a train cake.  She had a minor mishap and it leaned a bit but it looked very cute anyway.  Look at Daniel  smiling as we all sang happy Birthday. Notice the Valentine heart on the back.

In the blink of an eye, Daniel grabbed a jellied worm and sucked it in and then grabbed the candle.

Mama retrieved the worm candy and helped him blow the candle. The worm candy was cut in small manageable pieces. Somehow I have no picture of him eating cake.

Thanks for visiting. Prayers for friends who have to deal with serious illness and traumas and hardships in their lives.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
JB

  1. Happy Birthday Daniel! What a cutie. It seems like just yesterday you were posting about his birth! Pretty cake! I hope it tasted as good as it looked. Your snow pics are amazing and they look very much like our snow pics! I do think you've gotten more than us though. We are having more snow today..3in. already this morning and it's still coming down. I'm happy that the temps are in the 30's....until Monday when they fall back into the bitter coldness again...One more week and then it's March and for heaven's sake I hope Spring will finally make an appearance! Take care and be safe!

  2. So glad you are home now. I am glad you like shoveling snow, it looks like fun to me too. I love that cake Christine made for Daniel and I can't believe he is already two!
He looks like he is having a great time. I bet it feels nice to be back home. How was the flight? Was it rough? There has been so much weather around.

  3. Yes, that is a serious snowfall! Happy Birthday to Daniel! I love the cake, and who can tell if it is leaning or not? I'd say it didn't last long enough for that to be a problem.:-) Take care, and stay warm! xo Nellie

  6. That much snow looks like back breaking work to me! We are now snow covered but not with much. Problem is there is ice on top of it and it is slick! Glad you are home safe and sound. Happy Birthday to Daniel! He is growing up fast.

  7. I love to shovel, too, Julia, if the snow is nice and fluffy, but I'm getting a little tired of it this winter. Looks like you had a fabulous visit in Ottawa. Stay warm. Sarah

  13. What a cute cake! No matter that it's leaning...it's obvious she put a lot of work into it!
All that snow is pretty...but it sure makes more work. I'm glad you are able to shovel, and enjoy it. I've been forbidden by the doctor to shovel snow this winter (or mow this summer!!) so it's good we haven't had much so far. Tonight is our biggest snow fall so far...we have several inches now and it's still snowing. It's to turn to freezing rain, though. That will make a mess for Church tomorrow!

  16. He is getting so big! The cake is adorable. What fun and how sweet.
I always feel very satisfied after I clear snow. We haven't had to do much the last couple of weeks. When my ribs heal, it will be me but I need help until then. It is mostly subzero temps here right now.
    Hugs! ❤

  18. What a cute yougun' they are so curious at that age.

I have no point of reference for all that snow. We had 18 inches back in 1993 and it shut the state down for almost a week :)
I doubt y'all put on your snow pants with only that much snow :)

  20. Awww, Daniel is a cutie- and I did laugh about him grabbing the worm and candle- glad Mum was there to save him from the candle!
The snow you have is utterly incredible- I have not experienced anything like it- I'll bet summer is something to look forward to! I'm glad you like the shovelling though, sometimes mundane tasks can be enjoyable! Snow does seem to have a magical charm to it!
I hope your friends are alright and I will of course pray.xx

  24. Aww, that train is just SO cute!!! And so is he! It snowed here in Nashville, but it was mostly ice. We were snowed in for about 2 days and that's it...some of Nashville is still snowed in, though.

  35. Hi Julia,
There was a time I too enjoyed shoveling snow but these past couple of Winters have worn me down when it comes to shoveling. Although, I did make a path to the bird feeders. Why should they suffer, lol...Of course I'll have to do it again since we got more snow yesterday and last night. UG!

Daniel is adorable. In the blink of an eye kids can grab and go, lol...The cake came out cute too. I've had many a leaning cake in my birthday cake past, lol...

Thanks for sharing, Julia...btw, Cookbook Wednesday will be starting up again this week. I hope you will be able to join us:)
