PROCRASTINATION, PLEASE GO AWAY....

Why is it getting so difficult to write a simple post lately? My posts have been very far in between. I have plenty to say but just too darn lazy to share.  Oh my gosh, I just realized that old age is setting in. That's it... It happens to everybody and it will happen to you too...

Talking about old age... Most of you know that I injured my foot on November 3rd. It swelled up and was too painful and too tight to put my work boot on. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't fit in my boot even with a thin sock.

This past Monday, Nov 16, I had a doctor's appointment for a regular prescription renewal. I was limping and  my doctor insisted at looking at my foot and was concerned enough to order X-Rays and sent me to the hospital.  I got X-rayed right away but waited in emergency for 4 hours just to see a doctor. It was not how I had planned to spend the day...

After an eternity people were called in one by one and I patiently waited for my turn to be called in.
I saw this doctor holding a piece of paper walk in the waiting room. He looked at the piece of paper and looked around the room and I thought he was going to call my name. I was getting pretty famished by now and my guts were letting me know just how hungry they were.
The doctor didn't called any name and went back in the emergency room...

I waited some more....
After what seamed like a long time, he came back out with his piece of paper and again he looked at it and looked around the room. He even glanced at my foot but again he didn't called any name and went back in. Suddenly, he reappeared with his paper and called my name. I got up and said, "That's me" and walked in.  He looked at me and said, "It's BROKEN, it's broken and you're walking on it? I can't believe this, you're walking on it... You are one tough lady, one tough lady. "  I said, yes, I've been walking on it for 13 days. He showed me the X-Ray and it was very broken. The swelling had gone down and I was wearing my sneakers and looked like everyone else. He was expecting a senior in a wheel chair with her foot up.. lol

He thought I was doing so well that he opted out of putting a cast and a walking boot.  I was pretty glad not to get a cast on. They are horrible... I know because I had one on the other foot  but that's another story...

I'm back at wearing my work boots and caring for the calves. I baby my foot and I'm not climbing ladders yet... my son Vaughan is helping me at the farm and George is milking for my son.

During my resting period I have finished edging all my rugs and I finished edging my grandfather rug. It's about 24 x 24 inches. Now I'm all caught up and I'm feeling lazy and spoiled.

Of course, my grandfather was a very handsome man and I couldn't capture his real portrait but I'm pleased that I, at least got this far. I wish I could draw like my granddaughter. She's an amazing artist...

Stay safe and happy everyone and welcome to my new follower.
Thanks for your visit and comments. I really appreciate them.

JB

  2. Well Julia, I am not surprised that the dr thought you were a tough cookie...You have proved that to us time and time again. I am sorry that it's broken but so glad your dr insisted that you have it looked at. It might have really caused you problems down the road....I love the rug of your grandfather...I think you did a super job. Thank you for being so faithful while I have been on this 30 blog post jig....I have to tell you it's been so much harder than I thought but it's amazing what you can come up with in a pinch...I hope you have a great weekend...

  4. I'm not surprised that the Doctor was amazed and thought that. I've felt that and thought you were extraordinarily dedicated since I first encountered your blog. I knew I just had to follow you, you are v inspiring.
I'm glad that he's given you a boot and you did get it checked out as, like the person said above, it can cause problems further down the line if not sorted.
Glad the calves are being cared for and you managed to complete your rug. We are our own worst critics so of course you are modest over your skills which are Amazing. It is not easy to represent a man in wool!!! He looks splendid and commands respect!! Take care amd yes, we would love to hear more of you, more often, not least because I would like to reciprocate when you are so generous towards my blog.Xx

  5. Sorry to hear your foot is broken. It takes one strong will to continue life as if nothing is painfully bothering you. Hopefully you won't have any arthritic pains in there later on. I Love, love, love grand-father's rug. It's amazing the details you have captured. Awesome job.

  6. Who needs a pesky doctor when you're the poster child for the old saying "You gotta play hurt" :)
    I love the rug.
And it's not a function of getting old or lazy, somethings you simply need a break.

  7. None of us are surprised about your being a tough cookie! I wondered if maybe the foot was broken and I can't believe you have been walking on it. I love your Grandfather rug. I think you have captured so much feeling and depth in the portrait. Rest up and take care of that foot! You deserve to feel lazy and spoiled!

  8. Oh my goodness, Julia, but then you are always on the go and I can see you not letting something like a swollen foot slow you down! Glad you didn't have to have a cast! Procrastination....I think that is our best friend! LOL!

  9. Julia, my dear... You ARE one tough cookie!!! So happy to hear you are still babying your foot somewhat. At least you used your down time productively and are caught up binding rugs. I will gladly send you a couple to bind {{grin}}. Your grandfather rug is amazing.
My grandson broke his foot on Thursday and has a non-walking cast for at least 3 weeks. Poor boy is really bummed.
    Hugs :)

  11. We already knew you were born to be rough and tumble and like the ever-ready bunny. Tough, you bet'cha. But at least you got all your undesirable hooking binding done and ready to go another round of hooking. Glad your foot is on the mend.

  13. oh my gosh Julia!!! It was broken! I knew it looked so bad, you are one tough lady. I read Ron this and he just chuckled and said, that is what I like to hear, she just kept working, not your normal senior citizen. I really like your rug. I think you did a fantastic job! It looks so good Julia. Well take it easy if you can. You are such an inspiration to me. Never give up-Never surrender. :)

  14. You are one tough cookie:)
Prayers for a quick mend and healing happening in all the surrounding tissue. That there won't be repercussions from lack of boot or cast.
Really glad you didn't have to wear a cast, too! Ugh....those.
Peace and patience as you give yourself the rest you need to get back
into ship-shape soon. Give yourself the gift of time.

  17. Hi Julia,
Nothing wrong with feeling lazy and spoiled at times. Even with a brokey foot you would never be considered lazy. You do more work than most strong men.
You did put your rest time to good use (See, not lazy!). I continue to admire your Grandfather rug. It is a masterpiece!

We are loving our new home. Still hard to believe we are here.
