UPS AND DOWN AND LOTS OF SMILES

Yesterday morning  started not very well. One of our older very pregnant cow was in the calving pen and it looked like she was ready to give birth but I notice that she hadn't eaten her  grain and she even refused to drink her water. I thought that she was in labor and that once she gave birth she would get interested in eating. Then she laid down and when she tried to get up she was too weak to get up.

My son called the vet and he came and treated her and then tried to pull the dead heifer calf out. It was turned and he worked about two and a half hours to pull the calf out. It was 10:30pm last night when I got home from the barn. It looked like she was getting her strength back but this morning when I walked in the barn, the first thing I saw was the cow on her side and she was dead.

Today I made some lemon meringue pies to cheer me up and the next cheer me up I got was that my daughter send me some photos of my grandson smiling and I thought that I would share them with you.

 So much to look at
 Now here comes a smile
I just love to have my photo taken
I love all this flashing going on...
 Hummm...
Ok now, that's enough  smiling for now.
I still look cute even when I'm not smiling...

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment.  JB

  1. Julia this post went from so sad to adorable in a flash.
I am so sorry about your cow and calf how horrible that is for you. It has to take a lot out of you to loose one of your cows like this.
You have to know that since the birth of your grandson I love coming by here and seeing new pictures of him. He is adorable and I don't know if you see it yet but he looks like you. Have you looked at your baby pictures and compared.
I left you a comment on my site about your comment. I don't usually do that but I felt I needed to because you have no reason to apolize to me about your honesty.
In all honesty I don't read books like your talking about either. This chapter is nothing like the rest of the book which is odd I guess in that way. But no you did not hurt my feelings and honesty is what I was looking for and I thank you for being honest.
    Love ya

  2. Oh Julia he is so cute and I love it when they are just smiling over everything. My grandbaby is doing that but she has the shy thing going on, She smiles and tuckes her chin into her collar. You could just eat them up.
so sorry about your cow. My Mom always said that it was part of farm life. But I never deal with it well. (My grand parents has a small farm)
can't wait to see more pictures of Sweet baby James.

Sorry to hear you lost a cow. That is one of the down sides of farm life. I hope James and the lemon pies perked you up.

  13. What a sweet baby! And he's grown so fast too. He will always bring sunshine to your life, especially in the not-so-good times. It's hard to lose our 4-legged friends, isn't it? Three years ago today I lost one of my beloved sheep. It was upsetting at the time but at least I have fond memories of him. Wish I could enjoy that pie with you! Yum!
