A pair of new  swede shoes for $7.99
A pair of framed pictures for the bare wall over my hand towels

I don't know if you're like me, if you're not, that's OK, believe me...      I never was one to gather much nick-knacks or seasonal decorations until the kids couldn't decide what to get me and I always said the only thing I really wanted was a tree ornament from each of my four kids at Christmas, because I really didn't need anything and I didn't want them to scour the planet for gifts for me...  Now I have so many tree ornaments from all over the world as some of my kids are travelers. My Christmas ornaments all neatly stored in see through plastic bins. I have enough for two trees and last year I bought another Christmas tree on sale, that was already lit up and I gave it to my daughter because I would not have enjoyed it as much as she did. I knew that she was very busy and the thought of seeing her having to drag a tree all the way from the market in all that snow made me think that it was the right thing to do. It sets up in minutes and she was happy.

Some of you know me as a thrifty person. Now since I've started hooking, my favorite second hand store is Value Village.  I go as often as I can, to look for wool skirts and pants and I take a stroll in the cookbook department, the Christmas department, the knic-knack department, the basket department,  etc. Last year I started a small collection of snowmen  and santas and I only pick those which I really like and I have an extensive of the best cookbooks too.

Some more baskets
An exercise mat
A dispenser for the shower
A mirror for my entrance
Nativities to add to my Christmas nativities

A cute bunny box for Easter. It needs a little dusting.
A new tortoise shell frame, still in the packing Note, the three wool skirts are not shown here, they were  all disassembled and cut into swatches and was shown in a previous photo.
This week I picked up three wool skirts, several baskets, a mirror, a frame still in its packing, two framed pictures of roses for the bare spot in my bathroom, a pair of brand new swede shoes that fits me to a T, an exercise mat, a mirror, a bunny box that needs dusting, three books with a free cloth bag, a shampoo and conditioner dispenser for the bathroom. So I think that I did very well. Today of course was Senior's Day and I got 20% off. I think it's the thrill of the hunt that's so much fun. Being a senior, well , it's fun too I guess some times.... Have a great week and thanks for your visit.  JB

  1. You know "senior" - I truly can't believe I am one. But, every now and then a young man (in his 30's ?) will say 'yes-mam" to me. Oh my, and I thought he was cute! Last Saturday I went to Bojangles and as I looked at the register I saw "senior discount 37 cents" - she didn't even ask my age! Oh my!! I guess I better get used to it.
Yard sales, antique stores, etc. I love them but I have absolutely no room in my house for anything. However, today I dropped by one with my oldest daughter (we had a few minutes to waste). I bought the perfect coffee cup to take to my office, and tiny old book, and a wooden tray of sorts - all $4.75. I did good, but no discount!

  2. How did we get to be seniors so fast? It kind of sprung up on us didn't it? But I don't mind being called a senior if it saves me 20%. lol. I really don't need all that stuff I buy but, it's so cheap just like me. I think that's because I came from a family of 17 kids and we didn't had much so saving our pennies was necessary. You did great for $4.75 JB

  3. What could be better.....you had fun and you found some treasures. Sounds like a good day to me. I am a cook book fanatic also. I have tons of them.

  4. What a wonderful shopping trip. I find it fun to be a senior - do what you want when you want and if your kids don't like it - it's OK for them to blame it on age!

  5. Kim, I'm so blessed to have a husband who is tolerant with my new found hobbies of hooking, gardening, and collecting someone else's junk. Maybe our ancestor cave women hunted for stuff while their men went hunting saber tooth tigers. lol... PS When are the braces coming off?

  6. Doris, welcome to my blog. I'm so glad you left a comment. I've joined your blog Moments in Time just now. I wish I could do what I want when I want but unfortunately I work on our dairy farm and have so much work to do.
    Please visit again. JB

  7. I read you had won that wool on Rug Hooking daily and then that same day you became a follower, my 49th I might add, I was thrilled because I never thought I would get over five followers. I was so excited to see what you had won. I just started hooking and I am so excited to see all of the beautiful rugs that everyone makes. So thank you so much for becoming a follower and for leaving your very kind comment today. I love the rug you have at the top of your page.
    So thanks again.
