VOLUNTEERING HAS IT'S REWARDS

Today I had difficulty keeping my eyes fully opened. I was tired from too many late nights and early rising. I ran several errands in town after work like picking up a package of 25 ear tags for my little bull calves for ($120.06 tax included) , gassed up the car and picked up some grocery. I rush home for lunch and picked up my Friday mail. Such sweet surprise to find an envelope from Deb Reardon with her CD in it. I rushed home and put it in the CD player and listen to her calming music while I ate.  Such a treat. Thanks so much Deb, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Then I grabbed my peeler and made my way to church to peel potatoes for the church supper, no photos of that because it never dawned on me to bring it along. I peeled along with others for about three hours and was thrilled when they asked me if I wanted the peelings for the squash and potatoes. One of my compost bin was totally empty and the other had about a foot of material left in it. Now it's full to the brim and the other has good foot of peeling.

I baked three carrots cakes which I will ice with cream cheese frosting tomorrow. Two for the church and the other is for my husband' s sweet tooth...

Two Carrot cakes for the church supper.

Tomorrow I work in the morning and after brunch I 'm back to church for mass and then to cut about 130 pies with my helper, Margaret until 6:00pm. We do this every year, twice a year. So I need to catch up on my zzzzzz...
Thanks for following my blog and for leaving your comments.   JB

  1. No wonder you are tired Girl. I don't think I could peel veggies for 3 hours AND bake 3 cakes!

  2. I could use you to be my agent Julia!! Thanks very much. I couldn't do all that you do, I'm pretty sure. I had a nice day of hooking, and my curves are coming along quite pretty. Get some rest and I'll dream about carrot cake. /Deb

  4. Your carrot cakes look delicious! I've been eating very few sweets, so I might have to find a "healthy" version of carrot cake and see how it turns out. Even thought I'm not eating many sweets, I still love to "make" them!

  5. Thanks Tammy, this one is really moist and yummy especially after the cream cheese goes on. It has only has 3/4 cup of vegetable oil as opposed to a cup and three cups of carrots, 4 eggs etc. But I can only have tiny slivers of it because of diabetes. My diabetes is controlled with proper diet so far. 7. I just getting caught up on your blog, Oh, my gosh, a whole truck load of squash!!! My heart about died. How many squash plants did you plant? I was real careful this year and the squash beetles have been horrible. I have never had them before. I love your idea of the baskets though. What a great idea for spraying them off outside. It all looks good. I bet you are tired. I can't wait to show my husband the picture of the truck load of squash. Really God is amazing being so fruitful to you. :)
The carrot cakes look yummy too. I don't know how you have time to hook. :)
Thanks I have enjoyed my visit.

  8. Hi Kim, You are right, I'm tired. My husband planted 70 squash transplant and only lost 2. Although the Hubbard squash are good, they are rather large and difficult to cut. He still wants to plant some Hubbard next year because people want some again next year. There are still two truck load left to pick in the field. JB
