Is a picture really worth a thousand words? Well here 's a picture for you.
This was a most relaxing place to stretch my short legs while everyone was by the water.
Liam supervising James as he's trying his luck at fishing.
First attempts at casting.
Bill shaving en plain air.
Something must have been funny. Even james thinks it's funny.
James and Daniel sharing an old vintage wash tub for hours and hours.
Cousin Nicole supervising the boys.
Launching the motor boat with Uncle Sandy and Jackie pushing the boat . Nicole, Christine, James and Liam going for a test drive.
Back from the boat ride and into the lake. Jackie, Christine, Daniel, Simon in the back , James and Nicole.
George with his orange cap joined us later at the cottage.
Jackie setting plates on the table while we are anxiously waiting for the feast. With everyone there, it was rather crowded so no photos was taken of the feast complete with wine and a huge 12 pound organic free range chicken and fresh veggies and it was excellent meal.We finished off with 2 big lemon meringue pies for desert. Everyone filled their bellies to the max.
It was a good day and we had to leave for the long trip back home with two tired but happy boys. We do this every year.
Thanks so much for dropping in and please come again. I love your comments.
I'll post back when ever... in the mean time stay safe and enjoy the rest of summer.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Julia! I don't think I've ever seen a picture of you RELAXING!!! ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like everyone is having a wonderful time. The picture of the boys in the wash tub brings back memories of my childhood when my sisters and I used to sit in the tub of water in summer.
How nice that all of you ca get together and have such a fun-filled family time.
If there were ever anyone who deserved to take time off work, you are definitely the one! I hope it was relaxing and refreshing for you! It looks like a good time was had by all! The meal you shared together sounds amazing! xo Nellie

ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to play with your family … TWO lemon meringue pies??? oh, please….. hard for me to choose which is my favorite… lemon meringue or lemon icebox made with condensed milk … the old fashioned kind…
What a great read this lovely Tuesday gonna be HOT morning ;)
You go every year??? This is the first time you have mentioned it? Gosh how fun. My favorite picture is you resting on that lounge. With your feet up. Do you know you are just adorable. I love that picture of you.
ReplyDeleteDo you care if I can figure out a way to print it and frame it? You are so pretty.
I love that all of you look so rested. That is a beautiful lake. Your meal sounds incredible. Did you make the pies?
I am so glad you are having a nice time. When I read the title, I really thought, " I wonder if she painted the rest of the barn, or just scraped more paint?" I am glad you rested. :)
I owe you about a email as long as War and Peace. :) I have been thinking so much about you.
Man shaving here (better light outdoors). Yes, they have been coming every year for a decade or more. She did have a couple of lake photos in an early August posting in 2012, but they were lost in a much larger collection of photos at her house so you wouldn't have noticed them so much.
DeleteThe lake certainly is beautiful. I've been going to the family cottage there for 58 years and it's the best escape from the pressures of regular life. A few years after Julia's daughter and I got together in a family way (more than two decades ago) they started their annual pilgrimage to the cottage.
This year Julia brought the two pies (and some veggies to cook). Jackie cooked the potatoes and veggies (beet greens, baked sweet potato, broccoli, and cauliflower), made the gravy, and set it all up. I brined, injected, rubbed with cajun blackening spice mix, basted and otherwise cooked the large bird. The whole meal was lovely. There were a dozen seated at the table and I think they all were pleasantly sated at the end.
We didn't let Julia do any work. Just fed her and kept her wine glass full, as we are wont to do. And Christine drove her home.
She should probably come more than once a year, but it's a challenge to be liberated from the farm for a day. Doesn't happen that often.
Nice to see a pic of you resting for a change!
ReplyDeleteAlso nice to see your family get together.
My family used to get together like that but now that Mom and Dad are gone and the few of us that are left, live far apart.
That says "Summer"! Love that you had a chance to relax and enjoy that wonderful family. All the kiddos are adorable! You'd have to drag me away from that lake! Good food made with love and shared with family...nothing better!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the perfect summer day to me. These are the days we'll remember, not the ones where we worked nonstop!
ReplyDeleteYou do this every year that is wonderful I can see the fun and the family love in every pic. That is what life is all about. Take care. Hug B
ReplyDeleteNow that's what a summer day at the cottage should look like!! Your quite the woman Julia & glad you took the day 'off' to enjoy life around you. You spark memories of my family time years ago, specially the boys in the tub. Mom & I use to place my daughter in one, in our city backyard & she would play & stay cool. :-) A day at the cottage & you relaxing, yes that was a picture that spoke a thousand words! Enjoy the rest of your summer. We're having a lot of rain today, so I'm going to sew! Thanks for the tour around a day at the cottage! Those young grandsons are getting so big!! Laughter is what you'll hear with those memories. Hugs, Cynthia
ReplyDeleteThis is so delicious, every wholehearted morsel! Your family is deeply beautiful....so much honest beauty. I love that:) So much joy taken
ReplyDeletein simple times together. Thanks for sharing this....it really touched my heart.

ReplyDeletelots of cute kiddos there,
good for you finding a place to relax!
Love, love, love that you do this every year! I've decided to do the same with our growing family and booked a beach house along the Oregon Coast for next Spring. Just looking at your pictures and seeing the memories that are being made validates my decision even more!
ReplyDeleteBabies and buckets are the cutest!
I love that picture of you relaxing on the couch! I'm pretty sure that is a rare treat.
