ANOTHER UPDATE ON MY MADONNA OF THE STREET RUG.

Why have I dragged my feet for so long on this rug? For some reason, I keep my rug frame upstairs in my craft room and it's probably one of the reasons  Out of sight, out of mind.

I've not been hooking much this winter.  I had dyed  several shades and thought that I had enough so I didn't bother writing down my own recipe because I was in a hurry that day.

I ran out of a darker shade, so I had to dye some more by putting a little of this and a little of that until I got very close to the color I needed. So now, I'm hoping that I won't have to dye anymore but I'm not certain that I have enough of a certain shade as they are all in the same bowl. lol...

I haven't done anything on the blue color and just want to finish the background for now. I'll worry about that when I cross that bridge.

I have found that this rug was easy except for the shading of the blue mantel. I could have pulled my hair out, I was so frustrated with my job of shading... It's funny how we run into a wall and we get stuck on some details.

Thanks for your visit and kind comments. I wish you all a great week. The daylight is getting a wee bit longer every day. Take care and be well.

Hugs, Julia

  2. Madonna is looking absolutely wonderful.
Congrats on figuring out how to dye the same color without a recipe. No way could I ever do that. Heck, I don't think I could get the same color even if I had a recipe!
Every bit of daylight is most welcome.

  3. I believe your Madonna work is spectacular and see nothing wrong with the blue at all. One thing I've been guilty of when replicating an antique is comparing my work with the original and what I'm trying to duplicate ~ UH, we should never do that because we will never think it is perfect. I love what you've accomplished.

  4. Oh my goodness - that rug was gorgeous and you dye your own wool?? Amazing. I could never do that. I read you will be married 55 years next month. I am heading for 49.

    1. Actually, it will be 57 years married next months. I got so busy that I haven't updated my profile for a few years. I should do that with my birthday so I can remain young longer, lol...

  6. Oh Julia! She is absolutely stunning! I love the soft earthy colors of the halo and background...they accent Madonna's beauty so very well. I think you have hooked beautifully and think you are your being way over critical of yourself. But I do understand the feet dragging thing. My Welcome Cats rug took years and it is still not completely finished (still not bound). I know they say the sun sets later each day but we haven't had sun in so very long that it is hard to tell here. We had a doozy of a snow storm Wednesday/Wednesday night. Have a great new week. ~Robin~ (The Cranky Crow)

  7. I think your rug is fabulous and I love the blue color on her mantle. I think you did great with the dye. I can't even imagine hooking something like that of my own creation and also dyeing the wool too. Wow. You are amazing! I hope the weather up by you is good. We got our really first big snowfall yesterday but all good today. Have a good week Julia!

Three Cheers for longer days. :-)

  9. You do such beautiful work. This is a fabulous rug! I love the colors. Yes, I am noticing the slightly longer days, and beginning to eye my garden through the back window. But tonight, it is under a few inches of snow. That should be good for the soil.
