2020 HAS BEEN A DIFFERENT YEAR, IN MANY WAYS FOR EVERYONE, INCLUDING ME

First, with Covid-19 that is still creating havoc with people's lives and the economy, education, nursing homes, vacations, policing, the closing of businesses and churches, etc, etc...  Some say it's divine chastisement for the sinfulness of mankind all over the world who have put God aside and are relying more and more on their own inner strength and on worldly things and have forgotten the Word of God and are serving another master, Satan.

The family unit is disintegrating because of the absence of fathers in the home and generation after generations, it will get worst unless we get divine intervention. It's like in the time of Noah when the world had become so evil. Abortion is the greater evil as respect for life is at an all-time low, especially in China, And making more money is more important.

There has been a dramatic increase in protests,  toppling of historical statues, an increase in burning Catholic churches and crosses, decapitation, and defacing of religious statues, especially of the Blessed Virgin Mary, desecrations of the Holy Eucharist, and persecution of Christians all over the world, especially in China. There are many other things that have happened like the extensive deluge of flooding in China and many other countries, locus infestation in Africa that destroyed crops, etc.  It continues and the world is being shaken to its core.

While I'm observing all this, I'm trying to live my life as normal as possible and the stupid Bambi has been raiding our garden this year, night after night, even eating tomato plants, can you believe?  They have eaten my Hostas, Phlox, Hydrangeas, Asiatic lilies, beans, carrots, peas, and ate all my son in law's beets. They only left me a handful of peas.😭

These were my Hostas last year in full bloom by the gazebo.

And this is what they look like this summer after Bambi and his family came for a garden party.

At first, a fence kept them out but they ventured inside the fence and got bolder and bolder. I've been putting shredded Irish Spring soap at night and it seems to deter them but the damage has been done.  I still managed to pick almost 8 pounds of beans but they have really eaten all the blossoms on the beans.

They chewed all the tips of my phlox in several gardens.

They chewed the tips of two of my Hydrangeas and left only two tips on this one.

Luckily I have lots of daylilies and the deers don't seem to like those.

There is still a lot of beauty amongst the ugly and every day is a gift and we should always be thankful for what we got and count our blessings.

Remember these poinsettias that were given to me in April from the church before Lent? They were losing their red bracts but with good watering,  the bracts lasted for a long time.

They are as high as that card table in the corner.  I put a chair for a comparison of the size. They are huge and they are taken over the room.

August is poking around the corner. It's been hot and very humid and I stayed mostly inside just venturing outside briefly. I just don't do well in hot humid weather.

Thanks for visiting and listening to my rambling. I enjoy reading your lovely comments but lately, I'm getting a lot stupid of x-rated spam which is very annoying. I know they are not from my regular followers.

Stay safe and well.
Hugs, Julia

  1. Yes. It feels like the world has gone crazy and lost its mind.
We need to remember from whom all blessings flow.

My heart sunk when I saw your beautiful plants. I’m so sorry Bambi had a snack.

It shows however that no matter how ugly the world is at times, you make your corner of the world beautiful. Not only with your beautiful yard but your beautiful soul as well.

    Hugs and love.

  3. Good Morning Julia,
Your thoughts are my thoughts as I watch what is going on in the world. It has been the strangest year ever, but we must continue to look for the good and be the good we want to see. I think everyone is afraid, and that is what the enemy wants us to be. The enemy and his minions feed off of negative energy and the world has gone into a tailspin, when I venture out though, I find for the most people kind, and gentle and compassionate. Nothing like we are seeing on the news 27/7. So today I will rejoice with those who rejoice. Your gardens are still lovely. Your flowers just blow my mind how big and healthy they are. You have such a green thumb. I think wild life has just taken over because of the shut down. I know people around here are seeing crazy things too. I hope you have a lovely day.

  4. You are so right about our world going askew. I don't know what the answer is, but I do know it would help if people would stop being so divisive and start to embrace each other. I pray for that.

  5. The world is falling apart and it's so sad to witness it. It seems the only thing we can control is what we bring into our home. I try to keep out all the ugly and focus on the blessings we have been given. You have such a beautiful garden and a green thumb I don't have. Your flowers are lovely and darn that Bambi for eating them up. My dad who once was a hunter now feeds the deer that come into their yard. He made little feed boxes and gives them corn. Kinda a compromise,It keeps them from eating my moms flowers at the same time they enjoy watching the deer.
    Hang in there Julia.

  6. Hello,
My heartbreaks at what is going on in our world. I recently read about a statue of St. Junípero Serra in California that was taken down. It made no sense as to the why it was done.
Bishop Barron wrote an article about it at Word on Fire.

I have awful rabbit trouble this year. And now chipmunks.
    Sending prayers and hugs, Carla

  8. So sorry the deer are eating your plants. I never thought the world would come to this hateful desire to burn businesses or take down statues. I call them thugs not protestors. Janice

  9. A friend of ours watches the Catholic news channels on their Dish service. She always gives me an update of what's "really going on" and says the prime channels truly are all "fake news". We only have antenna for tv so we only get local channels. But yes... I agree that this situation we are in is very much bigger than we can comprehend. So, I tend to my simple life and pray that we all stay safe...
Deer drive me bananas....and recently the squirrels are testing my patience! The squirrels are eating my tomatoes (the only veggie I planted this year)... so, just yesterday afternoon I started wrapping each cluster of fruit with chicken wire! Yep...don't have enough to wrap each plant, so I make little chicken wire tubes and pinch the ends. Next will be netting over the whole plants. I tried the irish spring and it works on the ground, but our squirrels "travel" along the tops of the fences and then jump into the plant and start eating. Jersey tuff? lol!
I haven't really had any luck with Deer deterent... the coyote urine supposedly works... but, needs reapplying often so it gets expensive.
After we move, I plan to build a chicken wire caged area for the veggie garden... I realize the animals need to eat too...but, they would find other sources of food to survive just fine if I hadn't planted tomatoes... boo-hoo... gardening is a never ending learning curve... :-)
    Stay safe and be well!
    Hugs, Sharon
