2020 HAS BEEN A DIFFERENT YEAR, IN MANY WAYS FOR EVERYONE, INCLUDING ME

First, with Covid-19 that is still creating havoc with people's lives and the economy, education, nursing homes, vacations, policing, the closing of businesses and churches, etc, etc...  Some say it's divine chastisement for the sinfulness of mankind all over the world who have put God aside and are relying more and more on their own inner strength and on worldly things and have forgotten the Word of God and are serving another master, Satan.

The family unit is disintegrating because of the absence of fathers in the home and generation after generations, it will get worst unless we get divine intervention. It's like in the time of Noah when the world had become so evil. Abortion is the greater evil as respect for life is at an all-time low, especially in China, And making more money is more important.

There has been a dramatic increase in protests,  toppling of historical statues, an increase in burning Catholic churches and crosses, decapitation, and defacing of religious statues, especially of the Blessed Virgin Mary, desecrations of the Holy Eucharist, and persecution of Christians all over the world, especially in China. There are many other things that have happened like the extensive deluge of flooding in China and many other countries, locus infestation in Africa that destroyed crops, etc.  It continues and the world is being shaken to its core.

While I'm observing all this, I'm trying to live my life as normal as possible and the stupid Bambi has been raiding our garden this year, night after night, even eating tomato plants, can you believe?  They have eaten my Hostas, Phlox, Hydrangeas, Asiatic lilies, beans, carrots, peas, and ate all my son in law's beets. They only left me a handful of peas.😭

These were my Hostas last year in full bloom by the gazebo.

And this is what they look like this summer after Bambi and his family came for a garden party.

At first, a fence kept them out but they ventured inside the fence and got bolder and bolder. I've been putting shredded Irish Spring soap at night and it seems to deter them but the damage has been done.  I still managed to pick almost 8 pounds of beans but they have really eaten all the blossoms on the beans.

They chewed all the tips of my phlox in several gardens.

They chewed the tips of two of my Hydrangeas and left only two tips on this one.

Luckily I have lots of daylilies and the deers don't seem to like those.

There is still a lot of beauty amongst the ugly and every day is a gift and we should always be thankful for what we got and count our blessings.

Remember these poinsettias that were given to me in April from the church before Lent? They were losing their red bracts but with good watering,  the bracts lasted for a long time.

They are as high as that card table in the corner.  I put a chair for a comparison of the size. They are huge and they are taken over the room.

August is poking around the corner. It's been hot and very humid and I stayed mostly inside just venturing outside briefly. I just don't do well in hot humid weather.

Thanks for visiting and listening to my rambling. I enjoy reading your lovely comments but lately, I'm getting a lot stupid of x-rated spam which is very annoying. I know they are not from my regular followers.

Stay safe and well.
Hugs, Julia

I'M STILL ALIVE

Time to show signs of life... I'm still alive. I spent the whole day at a calf seminar in a beautiful little town about an hour drive from here yesterday. It was nice getting away from barn chores for a change while my son did my chores for me.

Calves keep coming and this morning got my 8th bulls in a row. I should be playing 8 Balls Billiard.

My house is dusty but  most of my yard work is done except for two large beds.
Christmas can't be too far away because my Christmas cactuses are blooming.

I'm only showing one of the first  Christmas Cactus to bloom.   The others are just waiting to open

Same here, only a sample of my poinsettias to start to show their colored bracts. I tyhink that they need some TLC and fertilizer.

An update on my Childhood Memories rug. I'm at a stall right now because I have to decide how I'll proceed to my next step. Last evening I sorted through a pile of wool worm that got all mixed up and put them all in the proper drawers so I have a clean place to start hooking my next memory. I'm slower than some of my hooker friends for sure. So far I did this last section without dying any wool, just using the worms I got in my stash, from #3 , 4, 5 and 6 cuts.

A closer shot of my little outhouse with it's weathered boards for lack of the desired wool color.. Don't miss  that little outhouse at all... lol... Glad it's only a memory.

Thanks for visiting and keep smiling, it looks good on you.

SINCE I HAVE NO PETALS, BRACTS WILL DO FOR NOW

I always wonder how long my blogger friends keep their Poinsettias after the holidays.  Although I haven't bought a poinsettia in years, I have a collection at my house. For four years in a row at Christmas I get a big one from the University students brothers who have been part time employees and whom I've been feeding when ever they worked at our farm.

I keep them because they bring some color to cheer me up in the winter.  The church which I attend also give poinsettias for adoption after Epiphany, January 6th.  I adopted a small one last year and a bigger one this year.  I've lost a couple through neglect because the pot was too small and they dried out last year but I still have 6.

I know that some people get rid of theirs after the Holidays but I just can't throw mine out even if the leaves have completely fallen off. They usually leaf out with a little care and sunshine.

This one I got this Christmas 2011, from Dwyer, our part time employee. It's still healthy enough except some leaves show that it could use some fertilizer or maybe more sun. It's in the living room on the North side.

This one I adopted from the church after the Epiphany, Jan  2012. It had suffered a bit of cold in the transport and the bracts shows some dried spots. It quite a large plant.

This pale poinsettia actually has a white stem in the back which is hidden from view. I won this one as a door prize at a Christmas  party Christmas 2011.

This one was given to me for Christmas 2010  by the same University student . It needs repotting and TLC. It's late blooming because it wasn't getting enough light where it was.

This one I adopted from our church last Christmas 2011. in need of TLC too but it's blooming.

This one is a gift from the University students brothers  for Christmas 2009. I lost one stem from an accident  but although the bracts are small I love this plant.
See my little gardener angel watering it. That little angel was given to me as a little gift in a Sunshine Basket when I was going through chimo. It's a Dollar Store buy but full of memories.

This is what my front yard looks like at the moment. The January thaw has visited us.  It almost felt like Spring.

Since I haven't posted my Value Village treasure lately, I thought that I had to show you this cute pair of twitter-patted porcelain bunnies. The basket is about 7 inches tall.

As you can see, I paid $3.99 for this cute Easter decoration.

MEANWHILE,  ON THE FARM NOTHING HAS CHANGED MUCH...

My husband called me real early this morning, waking me up from my sleep before my alarm rang to let me know that I had a new calf and  that another heifer needed assistance to give birth.  I just sold a bull calf on Tuesday and now I have three more. 13 small calves is a handful. I'm weaning the triplets, Faith, Hope and Love  and Charity off milk.

I was so tired when I came home for breakfast today at 10:30 a.m. It seems that I've been coming home to breakfast at 10:30 everyday this week. Anyway, I poured myself a nice hot cup of French Roast coffee prepared myself  a big bowl of oatmeal with walnuts and raisins, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and  milk and sat in front of my computer to check my emails. I just barely finished my breakfast that I could hardly keep my eyes opened. I felt a bit cold all of a sudden and went to lay on the couch wrapped up in a couple of throws. I fell asleep and slept till 1:30 PM. I think that I was sleep deprived.

I managed to quilt a bit today and went back to work at the farm. I'm almost ready to make another turn on the quilt.

I NEED ZZZZZ

I'm pretty tired as I got home late last night after attending a banquet with my husband , my son and his girlfriend at the Delta Hotel  in Fredericton for the 37th Annual Meeting of Dairy Farmers of New Brunswick.

Our farm won two awards. The first award was for the Most Improved Milk Quality and the second award was The Excellent Milk Quality. The two awards were $500.00 each. There was four hospitality rooms before the banquet hosted by the banks and Farm Credit Canada and lots and lots of free drinks but I limited myself to one glass of white wine. The buffet was fantastic. I overate but so did everyone else.

It was about 10:30p.m. when I got home and checked my blog and commented on everybody else's. It was past midnight when I got under the blankets and was up at 6:30 a.m. this morning. I've been doing too many late nights lately.

Today I worked my butts off, (well there isn't much left there to work off) lol. I cleaned some pens and today I scrubbed and disinfected them and did my other chores too. It's been raining all day here and the snow is going down fast. Can't say that I'm sorry.

I aged my overflow bottle of Gewurztr for a full two days and I must say, it went down smooth as silk. I love my Gewurtzr. I only had a glass at supper time though.

I had some photos that I took of my holiday plants and couldn't upload them the other day because of my Picasa fiasco but here they are now.

Started from a broken segment from my large Christmas Cactus. I got the parent plant started from a piece of my daughter 's plant.

I got this red Poinsettia for Christmas last year from our employee and I meant to repot it along with the other but never got around to it. It's starting to change color.

I got this pink one from our church last Christmas too after the Holidays and it's doing it's thing too.

Another one from the church that someone gave me last year. This one is a cream color and is starting to change color too.

                                                         A fushia color Christmas Cactus.
                                        A scarlet  color Christmas Cactus.
All my Christmas Cactus were started with a small segment.

I finally attached some pads under my frame to protect my floor. No more old towels under to prevent scratches on the floor. What took me so long???
