ON CLOUD NINE

Today was a rather busy day and I was away from my computer. I usually check my emails about 5 times a day and it doesn't take long to go through the comments. But I found out tonight that it took me quite a while to do it all in one block of time.

This morning I checked my emails and started to type my comment in reply to the Daily Discussion.
I 'm usually pretty calm about anything so I thought that if I won the lottery I wouldn't rush into spending it right away. I wouldn't change anything in my rug studio right away either.  I  thought that if I won the lottery I'd buy a lot of dyed wool from Liz Smith who just opened a dyed wool studio and some dyed wool from April D. Deconick. I wasn't sure if I was spelling April's last name correctly so I closed my RHD comment page to check the spelling. When I returned to my email I saw a comment posted by Kim Jones on my blog asking if I had seen Red Jack blog this morning. I hadn't  so I checked it out before resuming typing my comment. I was in for a big surprise. I was announced the winner of  Followers of Red Jack new website. I wasn't as calm as I like to think of myself. I was so excited, you'd think that I really won a million dollars.

I buy a lots of lottery tickets for charity and never win any of them so this came as a total surprise. It mad me feel so lucky to win one of April's dyed wool palette. You never know when lady luck comes knocking at your door. Now I can't wait to see the palette. I'm still on cloud nine.  JB

THEY CALL IT BLACK GOLD

Ten years ago my husband George ( he doesn't mind me mentioning his name on my blog) and I took a Master Composting course to learn how to compost properly.  It was sponsored by the city and every time we helped out manning a booth at the exhibition informing people about composting  we each received a free black composter. We even appeared on a CBC radio morning program answering questions about composting.  We have four black composters,  a green rotating composter and four wire bin composters. That's a lot of composting and we compost all winter long too.

This is mostly kitchen scraps  with a lot of egg shells that we get from  the church catering when they make eggs sandwiches or lemon meringue pies.

Today I dug out some compost what we call black gold but as you can see from the photo, it looks more brown than black. My husband took a photo of me squatting, digging out compost that's ready to spread on my flower bed while there's still some unfinished compost at the top. I didn't quite finished my job because I had to return to the farm for my chores. I've been weeding most of the afternoon except when I took breaks to rest a bit and check Rug Hooking Daily.  To my horror I notice that my hair looks gray in the photo but my husband said that it's because of the sun. Even my cloths looks washed out.  I'm still salt and pepper but not all gray yet, lol....  JB
